RelateWell is proud to announce its successful grant application in partnership with Creative Family Law Solutions, to deliver 'Supporting Couples to Separate Well'.
A culturally responsive early‑intervention program for parents navigating separation
Supporting Couples to Separate Well is a community‑based program designed to help parents—particularly those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds—navigate relationship breakdown and separation safely, respectfully and with confidence. Delivered at the Springvale Service for Children (SSC), the program provides practical guidance, emotional support and clear pathways to legal, counselling and family‑violence services.
Across 12 months, parents can attend a series of two‑hour seminars facilitated by a family lawyer and a counsellor (with bilingual support and interpreters available). Each session offers accessible information on communicating safely, understanding rights and responsibilities, reducing conflict, and making child‑centred decisions during separation.
Participants also receive direct referral pathways to mediation, family dispute resolution, counselling, family‑violence support and community legal assistance, including Victoria Legal Aid.
The program aims to strengthen safety, reduce escalation, and improve emotional and developmental outcomes for children by ensuring families receive early, culturally appropriate support during a major life transition. It also deepens RelateWell’s engagement with the SSC community and strengthens partnerships with local legal, health and family‑violence services.

Family dispute resolution known as FDR is a mediation process where a FDR practitioner supports people affected, or most likely to be impacted, by separation or divorce, to resolve some or all of their disputes with each other.
